Our 10 acre estate vineyard sits comfortably on the Niagara Escarpment in its sub-appellation, Vinemount Ridge. Our climate guarantees wines of finesse and agreeability. The prized Riesling blocks of the Weis 21 clone are well suited to the special and rare base of bedrock here.
The older block finds itself on the slopes of the property where the soil is predominately clay and limestone. This provides a certain minerality to the final product. The younger lower block is on slightly sandier soil providing a more youthful acidity to the wine. These fantastic grapes are currently making the esteemed Charles Baker Riesling, Picone Vineyard. I am happy to say that we share a common vision of “the vineyard in a glass.”
Since 2014, Marc Pistor has crafted the Fogolar Cabernet Franc, Picone Vineyard from grapes planted on the south end of the property. A one-acre block with prized vines that are 30+ years old showcasing single vineyard characteristics from the Vinemount Ridge sub-appellation, Marc has profiled the potential of this varietal.
In continuing efforts to environmental best practices, Picone Vineyard has been certified in sustainability for their vineyard management by the Wine Council of Ontario. The Ontario Viticulture Sustainability Certification ‘recognizes that wineries and growers are committed to enhancing the environment by using sustainable practices in their wineries and vineyards.’
The vineyard is carefully managed by Phil Clarke, Niagara Custom Work.
